Break bread and brie in France
I’ve spent only five minutes in France ever, and that was thanks to a wrong turn down a road in western Belgium while on a childhood trip. Thankfully, France is finally on the itinerary for the coming academic year, and with that trip comes the beauties of dining in France. But in France there is rather a lot of specific dining etiquette. Hands visible above the table at all times, eating only bites of bread torn from the roll or slice by hand, don’t cut your salad but fold it onto your fork, eat your frites with a fork rather than your fingers…
Even the cheese course has rules of its own! But here is a great article titled ‘Break Bread and Brie in France’ from World Hum that answers all the questions, and gives a terrifically simple principle that describes how to slice the cheese properly. Bon appétit!
